Pharmacological Actions:
Kaphapittahara, Sthambhana, Varnya, Vrana shodhana, Vrana ropana, Swedana.
Indications:
Kushta, Kandu, Prameha, Vrana, Krimi, Asthibhagna, Bradhna, Vidradhi, Badhirya, Yoni roga, Karna roga.
Therapeutic Uses:
Prameha: Shala, kampillaka and mustaka (10gm. each) mixed with honey, amalaka juice and haridra should be taken. (S.S.)
Small Pox: Sarjarasa, pounded with the juice of shigru leaves should be applied locally. (V.D.)
Parts Used: Bark, Rala (Gum resin), Flowers.
Preparations & Dosage: Bark decoction 50-100m1.; Rala powder 1-3gm.
Specific Formulations:
Salasaradi churna, Sarjarasa malahara, Salasaradi kwatha, Atasyadi lepa.
Bhavamishra mentions Ajakaråna or Sarjana as another variety of Shala and it is identified as Vateria indica (Dipterocarpaceae). Similarly Aswakarna is a separate plant and the plant Dipterocarpus alatus is considered as its source.

Therapeutic Uses :
1. Fever: Juice of patha root taken in morning for three days checks fever with rigor. (V.D.)
2. Diarrhoea: Powder of patha root should be taken with curd. (B.P.)
3. Piles : (a) Patha combined with any one of duralabha, bilva, yavani and shunthi relieves piles. (C.S.)
(b) Buttermilk added with patha act as carminative and relieves constipation. (AH.) Parts Used : Root, Rhimme.

Therapeutic Uses:
- Calculus: Intake of decoction of varuna (root-bark) added with its paste, dissolves calculus. (V.M.)
- Gandamala: Decoction of varuna root taken with honey destroys gandamala of chronic origin. (V.M.)
- Abscess: Decoction of root of Varuna should be taken. It controls the unripe abscess. (Y.R.)

Some of the fraction of C. nurvala showed promising -anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic activities. -It. has been found to produce prolonged hypotension of gradual onset.
